Jason Azzopardi apologises for calling police, says Labour must stop lying about him

Thursday, 26 January 2017, 10:33 Last update: about 8 years ago

Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi has apologised for calling the police as soon as he was approached by a One TV journalist outside his legal office in Paola yesterday, saying that he was withdrawing the report he had filed.

But the Labour government must stop lying about me, Dr Azzopardi said.

In a statement, Dr Azzopardi said that in the light of rash decisions taken yesterday, he wanted to express his regrets for calling the police to inform them that One TV journalists were filming and trying to take his comments outside his office.

He said that whoever is a lawyer knows that clients who seek their services would not want to expose this in public, especially if the case is sensitive. The fact that for the second time in a month Labour journalists turned up outside his office annoys clients who would not want their case to become public.

Dr Azzopardi said there are two other lawyers working at the legal office, and they also say the privacy of their clients attacked.

Turning to the Lowenbrau deal which has been making the headlines for the past weeks, Dr Azzopardi said that he has nothing to hide and all of Labour’s bubbles are bursting in their faces.

Only last week, he said he took part in two PBS programmes Dissett and Xarabank and was interviewed by The Malta Independent, contrary to others who escape journalists from emergency exits or refuse a debate with the Opposition Leader.

In reply, the Labour Party said Dr Azzopardi must shoulder his responsibilities.

He cannot continue avoid answering questions, the PL said.
