The Medical Association of Malta today expressed its concern that a number of hospital employees, members of UHM, have been told that they will be transferred to Vitals Global Healthcare with major changes in working conditions without their consent.
MAM while supporting UHM in its justified industrial actions to protect its members, expresses solidarity with these workers and their families.
In a statement, MAM “is publicly warning the Health Ministry that the introduction of any such measures with its members, in particular non-compliance with sectoral collective agreements, be it in conditions of work, or remuneration, could lead to widespread industrial action in all the health service in Malta and Gozo.”
To date Vitals Global Healthcare while pocketing no less than 16 million Euro has failed to produce the slightest change in the infrastructure of the hospitals it is running (St Luke's Gozo and Karin Grech), while giving tens of thousands in salaries to a handful of individuals with no clear benefit to patients. MAM will not commit its members before the full investigation by the auditor general is completed, and the full version of the relative contracts published.
For the above reasons the MAM council will be meeting with urgency next week so as to be able to direct its members accordingly.
