INDEPTH: I will act in the interest of the party if PN loses election – Beppe Fenech Adami

INDEPTH online Friday, 7 April 2017, 10:28 Last update: about 8 years ago

PN Deputy Leader Beppe Fenech Adami said he would act in the party’s best interest if the PN loses the next general election.

Dr Fenech Adami was replying to questions by TMI's Content Director Pierre Portelli in this week's edition of INDEPTH which is available on www.independent.com.mt.

Dr Fenech Adami revealed that the db Group, which last month asked the Nationalist Party to return donations it made, are not chasing the PN for the money and no donations have been returned.

Asked again to present the invoices which were issued by the PN and accepted by db Group for services that remain unclear, Fenech Adami said that the commercial arm of the PN, Media.link, will continue to respect the commercial relationship it has with its clients and insisted that nothing illegal had been done.

The PN Deputy Leader for Party Affairs denied having a conflict of interest of the same nature Mario de Marco had with the DB Group in the ITS land transfer and the construction of a high-rise tower in St George’s Bay.

Asked to state whether he gives legal services to construction magnate Charles Polidano, who is no stranger to controversial projects such as the Hal Farrug Montekristo and the Riviera Hotel in Mtarfa, Fenech Adami denied his involvement with the businessman, yet adding that should he be faced with a conflict of interest he would make a decision thereon.

Beppe Fenech Adami referred to stories that appeared in The Malta Independent on Sunday citing an internal exercise by Identity Malta that identified those people with ID card numbers ending with a ‘P’. The documents from the internal exercise were first branded by the Prime Minister as fabricated by TMI but later Identity Malta took ownership of the internal documents that were leaked to The Malta Independent.

According to PN Deputy Leader Beppe Fenech Adami, “Identity Malta is still refusing to give the Electoral Commission updated information on new Maltese citizens eligible to vote.”

During INDEPTH, Beppe Fenech Adami insisted that the crisis at Identity Malta could not be contained as it would take all photos within the ID cards system to be physically checked to establish who has more than one ID number registered under his/her name.

Asked what the PN intends to do about this situation, given that we are close to a general election, the PN Deputy leader said that “we will do everything possible to ensure that the election is clean of any dubious votes.”

During the programme Dr Fenech Adami was asked about the state of the PN and if he believes the party can win the next general election. Beppe Fenech Adami conceded that for the PN to win, it is not enough to rely on the scandals of the PL Government but people need to be inspired by PN’s politics.
