"I am sure Simon Busuttil’s cabinet will have new blood,” former Finance Minister Tonio Fenech said.

Asked by The Malta Independent news editor Rachel Attard, on the programme INDEPTH, why the Nationalist Party through the past four years wanted people to forget the past and discard former ministers, Mr Fenech said that, “in the last election the PN suffered a big defeat so it has to project itself that it is reinventing himself. The PN leader had to find the right balance by bringing in new blood while still retaining experienced people.”

Mr Fenech said that, “a prime minister should never appoint only cabinet members who are newcomers and a PN in government should not do that. He should have a mixture of new and experienced politicians. In fact one problem that Joseph Muscat’s government had is that he had a lot of new politicians and this led to very big mistakes.”

Mr Fenech last week announced that he will not contest the next general election after 20 years in politics.
