Prime Minister Joseph Muscat wants to revise the law regarding fines for hunters and trappers, calling the way the courts are implementing this law as “draconian”. This would effectively mean that fines and punishments for hunters are expected to be reduced if Labour is re-elected.

He said that he was the Prime Minister who raised fines and closed the Spring Hunting season “when there was need.”

“I think the time has come to revise them as it cannot be that every hunter is treated in this way by the courts. Obviously I cannot criticise the courts in all this but I think there needs to be more rationality when it comes to fines for hunters and trappers.”

The Prime Minister was also asked about former PL Whip Godfrey Farrugia’s statements at the PN mass meeting held yesterday, and whether he believes Dr Farrugia’s statements were credible.

Yesterday Dr Farrugia criticised the sexism PD Leader Marlene Farrugia experienced after he registered with his partner’s party. “These comments are clear evidence that the Labour Party that is contesting today is fake,” he had said.

The Prime Minister, responding to the questions, said that he has the greatest respect for Dr Farrugia.  He said that up until 10 days ago, “he was singing the praises of this administration,” adding that he will not comment further, wishing him the best of luck.

Turning to marriage equality, he said the law is ready and it will be one of the first things he will implement if re-elected, and he believes he can legislate it before the Summer Parliamentary recess. As for the discussion regarding recreational marijuana, the Prime Minister said that the discussion would begin prior to the end of the year.
