Josephine Boni, the mother of Johanna Boni, the 26 year old motorcyclist who lost her life 18 months ago after colliding with a cement mixer, has taken to social media to express her anger at the postponements of the court case regarding her daughter’s death.

“We were promised that on 17 May there would have been a first meeting in court, and our tickets were booked for Malta, as we live in Sicily,” she said in a lengthy status on Facebook.

“Two days before that I was told that all was postponed to 26 June, and again organised everything for that important date. Today I got a message, that again, it has been postponed to 25 July,” she said. “Must I believe this? Is this justice?” she asked.

Speaking to The Malta Independent, Mrs Boni said that her and her husband Peppe are only seeking to see the sketches and know the results of the inquiry to find out exactly how Johanna had passed away.

“All we are asking for is a sketch and inquiry to know how our daughter died,” she said, emphasising that 18 months have passed since her daughter’s death and are still remaining left in the dark. “If it wasn’t for the pictures in the media following the incident, we would not know anything,” said Mrs Boni, who had come down from Sicily together with her husband following the news of her daughter’s death. She stated that the accident was a “simple transport accident” that should not take 18 months (and counting) to solve.

Besides wanting to see the sketch and learn about the inquiry, she explained that for her family, each postponement is an inconvenience.  Each time Mrs Boni would have to cancel clients and buy new travel tickets. “I must organize work, as like everyone else I must work to be able to eat, drink, pay bills, pay doctors and pay tickets to Malta,” she wrote in the post.

“This is also not fair for us because they bring us in from abroad,” she said, expressing her frustration, she added, “this is just playing with people, it is extra pain which we do not deserve.”

27-year-old Johanna died on the 5 January 2016, when she was by crushed by a cement mixer in Labour Avenue, Naxxar. She was riding a motorcycle.

Her mother’s drive and determination to continue to create awareness on road safety led her to organise fundraisers in memory of her daughter and other road victims, however, till this day, her family are still seeking closure regarding Johanna’s death.
