GasanMamo Insurance supports ‘MOVE’ – a new culture of movement

The Malta Business Weekly Friday, 14 July 2017, 10:41 Last update: about 9 years ago

GasanMamo Insurance believes that education is a journey that may take several years but this journey is not complete without two important components - sports and cultural activities. With this in mind, Malta's leading insurance company is happy to announce its support for MOVE, a registered non-profit organisation.

MOVE was set up in 2013 to promote innovation in sports and culture and the vision of the organisation is that each child and young person should have access to sports and culture and thus be empowered to live a healthier and happier life. MOVE works to encourage innovation in sports and culture as an educational and informative tool for all citizens. Members of this organisation are constantly promoting highly appealing purposely-developed community activities to endorse positive experiences, inspiring future generations to be more physically active, leading them from mental blocks to mental breakthroughs.

"We are overwhelmed by the work being done by MOVE with children and young people coming from different levels of society. MOVE is an exclusive combination of mixed experiences driven by the same passion and the constant urge for innovation and creativity. Both GasanMamo Insurance and MOVE share the same vision including that of promoting sports and culture as values treasured in cultural identities and addressing social problems creatively through innovation in sports and culture," said Julian J. Mamo, managing director at GasanMamo Insurance.

GasanMamo believes that through this sponsorship and thanks to the sterling work being done by MOVE, society can tear down the walls that stop young people from being active and consequently create the right environment to increase participation in sport for community growth and social inclusion.

It is interesting to note that as a non-profit organisation, MOVE is collaborating with Valletta 2018 Foundation to promote community cohesion through street sports and culture. A series of pop up sports and culture events will be taking place in various public spaces around Malta and Gozo through the programme "SHAKE IT", purposely designed to promote a new culture of movement. Earlier in May, MOVE and V18 attracted a diverse crowd in Pjazza San Gorg, Valletta young people from different cultural backgrounds had the opportunity to play together in a fun, and healthy environment. The capital city was transformed into a temporary playground thanks to a group of highly motivated MCAST sports students who took the initiative to set up a street soccer pitch and foot volley station in one of Valletta's most popular squares. The main objective behind this originality was to promote street games for community engagement. Similar activities were recently organised in Marsa and in Gharb Gozo.

"Our mission is to create a social change through sports and culture. We believe that the innovative use of community spaces with appropriate positive activities like sports and culture can empower community cohesion. We also believe that this practice, once introduced, can change the cultural landscape and make a difference to the community. This will not only support Valletta Capital of Culture but also sustain its legacy in the years to come," Cynthia Debono, MOVE founder and director said.

GasanMamo will continue to endorse these types of initiatives as it is part of its strategy to support local organisations that show a keen interest in preserving our cultural identity and to promote sports through culture.
