Chris Spiteri, President of Badminton Malta, has just returned from Finland where he was one of 40 young sport administrators from all over Europe who gathered in Vierumaki - The Sports Institute of Finland to contribute and be part of the first ever S2A Sport European Training Programme for Sport Administrators.
This course was organised by EOSE - European Observatoire of Sport and Employment - and the 40 participants were chosen from the eligible 78 who applied to be part of the course. Chris Spiteri's eligibility materialized thanks to the Malta Employees Sports Association's affiliation to the European Federation for Company Sport.
The course consisted of five intensive training days in which the participants focussed on five different topics, namely strategy, people, resources, operations and development. Such activities stressed the importance of having a clear vision and how to implement strategy with the right people and mindset.
Chris Spiteri shared with us this wonderful experience in which he was able to learn from people with extremely broad experience in the sports community like Stephen Robson from Leeds Beckett University and Jorma Makipaa from the Sport Institute of Finland. It was also a great opportunity to meet, discuss and learn from the experience of 39 other administrators, many of whom work full time in big European Sport organizations.
The event also created a large network of sports administrators which will continue to develop into further collaborations and discussions in the future.
Chris Spiteri thanked MESA for this great opportunity given that helped develop further skills by which he can continue to contribute to local sport.
