206 people today braved the cold and jumped into the sea in the 19th edition of the Thomas Smith Christmas Charity Swim.

Swimmers gathered near the pier by Independence Garden in Sliema and took a chilly dip shortly after 10:30am.

The Christmas-themed activity is held every year to raise funds for the Malta Community Chest Fund Foundation, which helps people in need.

The event sees swimmers of all ages brave the cold and jump into the chilly sea, all for a good cause.

For this morning’s event there were 133 male swimmers and 48 females. The oldest participant was 81-year-old Wilfred Pirotta. The youngest was 3-year-old Eva Testa.

Swimmers were handed participation medals by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.
