Microsoft, government to take relationship to next level

As Microsoft commemorates its 15th year of operations in Malta, the company reiterates its commitment to support Malta as it takes its ICT national strategy to the next level.

This was stated by Peggy Antonakou, Microsoft's general manager for Greece, Cyprus and Malta during a meeting with Prime Minister Dr Joseph Muscat.

During the meeting, which was also attended by parliamentary secretary Silvio Schembri, Antonakou commented positively on the various initiatives being taken at various levels to strengthen the ICT sector and the country's offering and pointed out that this should serve as a source of inspiration to other countries.

"Over the past 15 years, Malta has made significant advances in the ICT sector to become a leader in the region. We are happy that we were instrumental in supporting Malta's ambitious vision to become a lighthouse in the region and we're committed to support Malta for its next leap in the journey to become a global lighthouse where it comes to IT," Antonakou said. 

Antonakou, who was accompanied by Stavros Alexakis, Microsoft's Public Sector lead for the region and Kevin Schembri, Enterprise account executive for Malta, discussed a number of aspects related to current and emerging technologies such as Cloud infrastructure, Artificial intelligence, Big data and Block chain.

Schembri reiterated government's commitment to continue and further its relationship with Microsoft. He said that other meetings between Microsoft and his secretariat will be held to establish new initiatives based on Malta's ambitions to assert its position as leader in the ICT sector in the region.

Antonakou's visit to Malta also included high-level meetings with MITA and a number of key Microsoft partners and customers.
