Justice minister twisting the truth – Adrian Delia

Saturday, 27 January 2018, 08:11 Last update: about 8 years ago

Justice Minister Owen Bonnici is twisting the truth when he says that the Opposition agrees with the way the government is running the country, Opposition Leader Adrian Delia said in reference to what Bonnici told the European Parliament on Thursday,

Speaking on Friday, Delia said that Bonnici had conveniently forgotten that the Nationalist Party has been insisting for the resignation of the police commissioner and the attorney general, while calling for the strengthening of the country’s institutions.

Delia challenged Bonnici for a debate in Parliament so as to start the ball rolling for changes that would stop the rot.

If Bonnici wanted to see the country flourish, then he should see to it that ministers and top officials who are under investigation are removed. If no steps are taken, the country will continue to suffer the consequences, Delia said.

Bonnici is not understanding that the government’s obscene behaviour is causing so much damage to Malta. It is not only the PN that is condemning the way the government is damaging the country’s reputation, Delia said.

He said that if Article 7 is triggered against Malta, this would result in a total collapse for the country. The Opposition is doing its best to defend Malta, and Prime Minister Joseph Muscat should take the necessary steps to rectify the situation, Delia said.

The Article 7 procedure was designed to deter member states from advancing policies that threaten democratic institutions.
