Sara Xuereb has already won medals for Malta in both the Mediterranean Bowling Championships and at the Small Nations Cup.   This time she rose to the occasion with a prestigious bronze medal at the European Youth Championships held in Aalborg, Denmark.

The medal was awarded in the Masters event which is a singles event reserved for the top 24 ranked bowlers.  Sara played brilliantly, eliminating the champions from England, Denmark and Sweden before narrowly losing a berth in the finals to Wittura from Austria.

Sara was unlucky not win a second medal in the Doubles event, paired with her sister Raquel.  The Maltese duo tied in third place with team England but then lost the shootout by a single pin. England went on to win the Gold medal.

Sara has recently been voted as the female youth athlete of the year, her third award in the category.  She now turns her focus to the Mediterranean Bowling Championships playing within a fortnight.

The Boys also played well.  Although none made it to the medal zone, Kurt Attard, Matthew Magro, Edward and Miguel Xuereb all put in a great performance and finished with decent rankings.

Paul Baldacchino, President of the Malta Tenpin Bowling Association, stated that whilst some of the medallists from this year's edition will be over age for the next edition, our entire team will still be eligible and therefore the Association looks forward to future editions.
