Veteran model sailing boat skipper Albert Micallef is the Malta Model Boat Association 2018 National Champion.
Considered the father of model boat sailing in Malta, and sailing a boat he built himself, Albert was the top placed Maltese sailor in the MMBA's International One Metre Open Invitational, thus winning the National Championship. This is Albert's third national championship, the titles spanning 22 year, with his first win coming in 1996 and his second in 2007.
The 2018 Championship was held at the Mellieha Bay Hotel between the 15th and the 18th March 2012 and saw 36 racers from 8 different countries including Malta. Micallef's experience saw him make the most of the windy and rough conditions to place ahead of last year's winner Darren Abdilla, with Tony Davison taking third in the National Championship.
Stefan Abela from Bank of Valletta's PR & Marketing Department presented the trophies to the winners during the Prize Giving dinner held on the last day of the competition.
Bank of Valletta has been supporting the MMBA since 2011 and is major supporter of sporting initiatives in Malta promoting a healthy lifestyle in a competitive environment.
