Call it women’s intuition – after all, every sort of cliché has been used towards women recently – or call it experience, but the cloud is lifting from the urgency of the IVF amendment bill.

During his call out of the party faithful this 1 May on the Triton Place, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, as leader of the Labour Party, used the occasion to push, justify, convince, work and cajole the crowd present into accepting without question or doubt, the altruism of the need to freeze embryos.

The crowd obliged in giving him all the power and sanctity needed to go ahead and freeze their babies.  A new generation has been born for the service of the country.  We will turn babies into merchandise.  It will not be the biological parents of the baby who will make the sale – they simply donate.  Behind the operation we assume an organisation, such as, possibly, the new hospital that Vitals selected for their own surrogacy.  When Vitals Global Healthcare first landed on the medical and political scene in Malta, the feasibility of the project of a private/public healthcare service was couched in the ancillary service of medical tourism, where they would supply specialisation in the field of rehabilitation after an accident and so on.  This appears to have gone the same way as the American University of Malta, with its foreign students coming to a bogus university not even managing to gather a group for private lessons. 

A potential market study by Stewards or Cambridge Analytica or some other company must have pointed out where the real business lies.  Adoption of embryos must be quite in demand with older women wanting to get pregnant, as would be surrogate mothers, where some women do not wish to touch their hard-earned figure or take time-out from a prosperous career to spend 9 months carrying a baby.  Adjacent to this precept is also the demand for organs.  It is widely known that illegal immigrants, especially from Afghanistan and places of war, have been the victims of criminal organisations that trade in organs.  Recently, too, Muscat urged people to appreciate how much we need the immigrants for the prosperity of our country and to do the jobs that Maltese have moved on from.

Partit Demokratiku MP Marlene Farrugia has questioned in Parliament, exactly what could be the real motive behind Dr Muscat’s rushed and insistent purpose in ensuring the IVF bill will be approved without delay and in face of any opposition.  Could it be that the IVF business would be essential to the contract with the hospital and that our government is committed to ensuring it is available? 

Questions that may be asked in Parliament would very well include whether the government of Malta and perhaps the Prime Minister personally, has once again committed himself in the way he has done with Henley and Partners, to deliver the babies?

The game is always on.  The stakes are always higher.  Whilst the parties are still arguing about sale of citizenship, we may have progressed to sale of citizens.  The new slave trade.  Those women who wish to avail themselves of the opportunity to use IVF to conceive a child, will now be required to leave a “deposit”.  A perfectly formed embryo in a freezer ready to be implanted into a customer from abroad.  The low-cost solution.

Let’s face it, would you consider leaving your baby in a freezer, so that your arch enemy, your neighbour, your sister, could end up being the parents of that child?  This is Malta, where everybody is already probably related somewhere along their ancestral line.  But, if the doctor tells you not to worry and that they have a lovely couple from Florida, maybe a same sex couple who will need a surrogate to carry the child, ready to give it a wonderful life, your desperate need to get pregnant might overcome your mis-givings.  The new off-shore service with all the secrecy to boot.  With Pilatus bank gone, though, there might be some logistics to be sorted out about where the payment should be deposited.

Muscat is seen, amongst his loyal followers, as a benevolent and caring person, who will not judge his Chief of Staff or his super Minister, on corruption or theft from the nation, because, you know, who is he to judge?  Wasn’t it the witch who conjured up all these lies?  Anyone as altruistic as him could have no other motive in passing the IVF amendments, other than to oblige those suffering women who are, as described by him, hiding in the shadows because they cannot bear a child. 

Never, ever, would the importance of IVF to couples be diminished by any party or person but to use it for illicit gain is beyond permissable and approaches evil intent.  To deliberately deceive couples and take advantage of their desire to conceive is really inhuman.  It is that which is not human, not the 8-celled embryo.  So much so is it human, that the Catholic Church even condemns the wasting of sperm because it bears the seed of life. 

The country has been steered into seeking power. The ultimate example of this is with the Prime Minister himself and the movement he and his Chief of Staff  Keith Schembri crafted.  Money is power so let’s have money from the sale of citizenship, from construction and from corruption.  Decisions are power so let’s decide what we do and don’t do in Malta without interference from the Church, the horrid journalists or anyone.  Choices are power, so we choose the future of our babies.  It is all about taking power.  The T-shirt said God under a portrait of Joseph Muscat.  Power is an aphrodisiac.  Malta Taghna Ilkoll.  Take, take, take.  Sell, sell, sell. Take even the life of an unborn child and sell it.  Instead of turning and kicking in its mother’s womb it sits in the deep freeze, to be adopted by strangers. 

Rather than asking the Prime Minister to take time over this bill, her Excellency the President, Marie Louise Coleiro Preca, should demand a freeze and that the contract with Stewards be made public, in its entirety, with any deals properly scrutinised before even starting to debate the IVF bill.  There should be no shadow of doubt.  What is the business plan of Steward?

This follows conveniently, on the cultivation of cannabis for medical purposes.  Three ideas seem to have stirred the imagination of the Labour Party prior to the 2013 election – the oil scandal,  Smart City with its Dubai connections and Mater Dei Hospital, possibly as a model for Dubai Health Care but with no restrictions on procedures which could be undertaken here and a healthy western experience.

The matter of the protection of the unborn child in the woman, in the recently approved Domestic Violence against Women law, may also have been deliberately left open because a mis-carried child might become useful for organs and stem cells.  Is it all one big, horrible, frightening plan to commercialise the foetus? 

This is the stuff of nightmares.  Maybe we are talking here of women’s intuition and doubtless many remarks will try to discredit and insult anyone who supports this view.  They have much experience in doing so and have now all the protection they need to do so.  But can we afford to ignore the possibility?

Will we need to resort to the Courts again to save our citizens from being merchandised and traded?  With this bill, women, couples, will have been made into a slave, a commodity.  Not, naturally, because they wish to get fertilised by IVF but because of the subterfuge.  I wonder, will the dark genes of our babies matter?  Do customers usually prefer fair babies?  Will the background of the embryo matter and will it be known?  Well, at least certain similarities of the race are assured.  Not only can Malta give you an EU passport but it can also let you leave its shores with one of its own European-like babies.

If any reservation remains, just as the funds from the sale of passports are being rehabilitated through charity and housing projects, the merchandisation of embryos or organs could also be said to be creating jobs in the medical sector, with a call for nurses.

Let the same Labour MPs take a stand about this and insist that before they sign the new IVF bill, the Steward Health Care contract is published and scrutinised by Parliament, without any redactions.

The transformation is complete.  The government is in charge of our destiny.  May God have mercy on us.
