The Laura Vicuna School in Ghasri Gozo last week organised the Water Festival, which this year had the theme: ‘Reuse and save energy as to save water’.

Gozo Minister Justyne Caruana, Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Clint Camilleri and representatives of the Ghasri Local Council and HSBC water programme attended the event.

A video of all the work done throughout this scholastic year related to the Water Explorer programme was shown.   Various decorative items and toys that were made from reusable material were exposed in the school’s playground.  A bench which was made from wooden pallets was also exposed in the playground.  Instead of using common decorative items to decorate the playground for the occasion we used umbrellas.

Year 3 students showed posters and gave some tips about how we can save water in our everyday life.  On the other hand the Year 6 students performed a rap song about saving water.  This rap was written by our 10 year old students themselves. 

At the end of the activity the guests were all given a hamper consisting of several decorative items which were made by the school’s students from reusable material.  The guests were also given a set of glass drinking cups to be used during functions instead of plastic cups.
