Former Sliema, Valletta and national team striker Michael Mifsud, 37, was on Saturday reported to have agreed to join Birkirkara FC on a one-year deal.

TVM.com said on its website that the Stripes reached agreement with the player soon after learning that he wanted to leave Valletta FC.

During his illustrious career, Mifsud played for Sliema, Valletta and Qormi in Malta, but also had successful spells at Kaiserslautern in Germany, Lillestrom in Norway, Coventry and Barnsley in England, as well as Melbourne Heart of Australia.

He has played 127 matches for the national team and is the current top scorer for Malta with 40 goals in the national team's colours.

This signing comes soon after the five other acquisitions made by the Stripes during the past few days.

Brazilian defender Eduardo Dos Santos signed a one-year contract with the club. Dos Santos is 22 years old. This will the first experience outside Europe for him, following several spells in Brazil. He was last on the books of Guarani Esporte Club, before playing for Jabaquara SP and Ceara SC in the Brazilian Seria A.

Paul Fenech has also returned to the Stripes after a spell at Balzan, while Marcelinho, Uchenna Calistus Umeh and Terence Agius who all joined the club in the last few days.

The Stripes will be taking part in the UEFA Europa League Preliminary Round - the draw for which is scheduled to be held in Nyon next Tuesday.

Another club featuring in the forthcoming Europa League, Gzira United, have also made some notable signings. These include former Hibernians players Rodolfo Soares and Jorginho.
