The 39th edition of the World Medical and Health Games was officially opened this afternoon when the official Opening Ceremony took place in Bugibba Square.
The Parade of Nations saw athletes being escorted by a local Brass Band to the square where they were welcomed by Ms. Anne Marie Fenech (Mayor, St. Paul's Bay), Dr. Lucienne Attard (Secretary of the Maltese Sports Medicine and Exercise Association, member of the executive committee of the Maltese Olympic Committee and chairman of the National Anti-Doping Organisation) and Dr. Alain Seynaeve, a French Doctor who will be addressing the Symposium on Tuesday.
The ceremony concluded with the official Oath of the Games being read by five athletes representing - Malta, Chile, Italy, France and Germany who read the oath in English, Spanish, Italian, French and German.
The World Medical and Health Games will be welcoming 1,400 athletes representing 41 countries. Malta will be fielding a total of 75 athletes.
Six Maltese athletes were chosen as Sports Ambassadors and include Victor Calvagna (Triathlon), Ivan Esposito, Joseph Castillo (Judo), David Debono (Golf), Mario Mifsud (Powerlifting) and Jessica Pace (Table Tennis).
