The CVB Barça and Malta Volleyball Association would like to announce that they have entered into an agreement of mutual collaboration with the aim of joining forces that favour the continuous growth of Volleyball sport and strengthen ties between our athletes, coaches and managers.
This agreement establishes the framework for organizing joint sports activities in Malta and Catalonia, collaborating in sporting events, sharing technical training and any initiatives that promotes volleyball.
Malta Volleyball Association President Jesmond Saliba and CVB Barca president Jose Caro Bollo expressed their satisfaction at the agreement reached inspired by a common vision of sport as a tool for inclusion, integration and education, we reaffirm our friendship and commitment to volleyball.
Saliba thanked MVA's technical director Edvaldo Carvalho Da Silva and Barcelona's technical director Adrian Fiorenza for their instrumental role to achieve this signifcant agreement.
The agreement was finalised this week after discussions which took place on the margins of a training camp the Maltese Volleyball Association had in Barcelona where it trained and played a number of matches against CV Molins and CVB Barca.
MVA's Technical Director Edvaldo Carvalho Da Silva said that this training camp provided an opportunity to define the strengths and weaknesses of the new team which had the inclusion of a number of new elements and has the opportunity to work on these ahead of the next training camp planned in September in Italy.
In fact a number of younger and inexperienced players were selected for this camp in order to build confidence within the team, having both sets of first six and reserve players as prepared as possible for the Games of the Small States of Europe to be held in Montenegro in May 2019.
The fruit of the visit and the relations with the Catalan region will also be witnessed next week.
The Malta Volleyball Association will be organising the first edition of the Fundacion MAPFRE Volleyfest between the 6th and 8th July of this year. This international event, which will be held at Cottonera Sports Complex, will bring together the U18 teams of Spanish club AE Carles Vallbona, together with those of local clubs Balzan Flyers, Paola Volley and Swieqi Phoenix Volleyball. During the event, friendly matches will also be played by the U14 teams of the Spanish side and various local teams in this category.
AE Carles Vallbona hails from Catalunya and was set up in 1997. Since then, it has established itself as one of the top clubs in the region. Today the club boasts a nursery of more than 300 players. The Spanish club's delegation will include 41 people, including 38 athletes from the various categories.
Commenting on the event, MVA President Jesmond Saliba said that "The aim of the Fundacion MAPFRE Volleyfest, which is being held in collaboration with Sport Malta, is to bring together local and foreign youth players to compete in a spirit of sportsmanship and friendship, and particularly to give local players a chance to meet and play against foreign opposition. This year's edition is the first of what we intend organising as an annual event". The official inauguration of this event will take place on Friday 6th July, at 6pm.
