Malta with Valerio Agnoli, a future new project of Maltese Cycling

Nine young local cyclists led by Joe Bajada, Secretary General of the Malta Cycling Federation recently returned to Malta after participating in an intensive training camp held in Fiuggi and the nearby villages in the province of Frosinone, in the region of Lazio, in central Italy.

This was part of the new project of the same Federation together with Valerio Agnoli, Italian professional cyclist of Team Bahrain Merida. The training program was drawn up by the Italian professional coach Pierluigi Terrinoni who is also the coach of the same Valerio Agnoli. Yet the same Agnoli took part in every training session of our future cyclists. In some days Malta Federation technical director Etienne Bonello, took care of the training sessions.  The Maltese cyclists came back with hard working days and very useful experience with some of them leaves very positive impressions.

Before starting their training, all the cyclists yet for biomechanical tests conducted by Paolo Conte at Velo Bike Fitting System Center of Fundi. The five under 16 year’s old cyclists also took part in a provincial race held in Ferentino.

During those fifteen days spent abroad, the entire group visited the Eternal City of Rome where they were assisted by Maria Giovanna Giorgilli and Veronica Terrinoni. On another day the group also had a swimming session at the Olympic Pool at the Sports Center in Capo i Prati. In the last evening spent in Fiuggi, the group attended for an official dinner at the Ambasciatori Place Hotel & Spa Fiuggi where Joe Bajada presented signed national team shirts to Valerio Agnoli and Pierluigi Terrinoni as an appreciation of the invitation and their collaborative work.

The training of these young cyclists is expected to continue in Malta under the direction of Etienne Bonello and instructions Pierluigi Terrinoni. With this group is expected to increase other younger cyclists thereby indicating the group which is expected to go next summer for another training camp in Fiuggi.
