A man died after finding himself in difficulty while swimming this morning at Armier Bay, the police said.
The police were notified about the incident at around 11.45an.
A medical team from Mater Dei Hospital went on site to give assistance but the man died later in hospital.
The police later said that the man was identified as a 76-year-old Englishman.
Magistrate Donatella Frendo Dimech is conducting an inquiry.
