Weeks of police surveillance led to a massive haul of drugs during a raid that took place in Cospicua on Tuesday morning, the police said.

Eight people were arrested in the operation.

The raids were carried out at a number of residences and a square on Santu Rokku Street.

The operation was conducted by the Drugs Squad, the K9 unit and the Special Intervention Unit.

The police arrested six men and two women whose ages vary between 17 and 43 years. The suspects are from Cospicua, Qormi and Xghajra. Officers found 115 sachets of suspected cocaine, crack and heroin in trafficking form. They also found measuring scales and other drug-related objects.

A stash of €20,000 was also found in one of the houses. Magistrate Aaron Bugeja was informed of the operation and is leading an inquiry.

The suspects were taken to the general police headquarters and are assisting with the investigations.
