The Gozo Motocross Association, organised the second edition of the Saturday Night MX which took place at the Gozo Horse Racing Course last Saturday. This successful event was part of the EWoS and the #BeActive initiative by Sport Malta

The president of the GMA, Mr Frank Xuereb took the initiative to organise motor sport competitions on the huge area inside the Gozo HorseRacing Course. He designed one track for flat motocross and enduro racing and another one for the autocross competitions. Autocross drivers lack the space to organise auto competition, therefore it was the perfect opportunity to include an autocross course in this enormous space. GMA welcomed these enthusiasts and promised to help them organise more competitions of the same sort.

Meanwhile Maltese Trial riders also had their own space. They put on an excellent show with their bikes, the public was very much impressed by their ability to climb objects while balancing their bikes. This show included also 16 year old Isaac Scicluna together with 3 children under the age of ten: Julian and Matteo Scicluna and also female rider Kenzy Bonello.

The competitions started off around 6pm with no less than 35 Gozitan and Maltese riders competing in 4 categories of three heats each, which contained a number of laps.

Anticipation and exhilaration were runninghigh as the dynamic sounds of the 2-stroke and 4-stroke dirt and road bikes hit the track. A numerous crowd enjoyed the friendly yet combative competitions as riders raced energetically across the artificially lit track.  The association was honoured by the presence our Maltese counterparts and would like to thank them for their eager participation

The Enduro class was won by Bernard Sammut followed by Matthew Gauci and John Attard respectively.

In Class A, rider James Zahra did very well. Etienne Bigeni came in second while Stefan Dimech was in third place.

Matthew Buttigieg won Class B followed by Nataniel Camilleri and Matthew Spiteri in third place.

Class C contained both male and female competitors. Nicole Cutajar, Emma Xuereb and Naomi Scicluna did very well in all of the three heats. In fact Scicluna managed to get into second place while their counterparts....and /....came in second and third place respectively.

Tha Autocross was won by Frank Cefai in his Escort followed by Matthew Saliba also in an Escort M1. JJRapa came in third...

At the end of the competition, the Hon. Dr Justyne Caruana, Minister of Gozo who honoured us with her presence, presented all competitors with a momentum and also the winning trophies. The Gozo Motocross Association would like to thank all those whose without their support without, this event would not have been possible including Sport Malta and #BeActive Campaign , the Ministry of Gozo and the Gozo Sports Board, committee members, marshals and helpers.

The president of the GMA stated that in the near future, the association aspires to send its member riders abroad again for more  motocross experiences and would also welcome any experienced foreign riders who will share their skills and knowledge with our associataion.

The GMA would like to announce that the first round of the Yamaha Gozo Motocross Championship 2018-19 will take place in October 2018.
