David Casa employees defend MEP after drug allegations report

Sunday, 14 October 2018, 09:00 Last update: about 7 years ago

Employees who work for Nationalist MEP David Casa have come out in defence of their employer after a newspaper report said he regularly took drugs.

Maltatoday reported that a former aide of the PN MEP declared in a sworn affidavit about the euro-parliamentarian's “drug habit between the years 2009-2017 during which the two had a relationship".

The report alleges that Casa “would be surrounded by friends and also aides with whom he would also share drugs”.

“David Casa… would spend weekends in hotels – one in St Julian’s and the other in Attard – and during those stays a particular person would arrive at the hotel to sell Casa cocaine and that he would pay him in cash”, the report says.

There were also cases when Casa used to take drugs in his office at the PN headquarters, but this stopped after September 2017, the report said. September 2017 is the month when Adrian Delia took over as leader of the PN.

Casa denied the claim to the newspaper, saying it was “obscene”. "I categorically and unreservedly deny this obscene allegation," Casa told the newspaper.

In a statement issued this morning, the employees of MEP David Casa, stated the following:

“Throughout the duration of our employment with David Casa, we have never witnessed any of the allegations published in today’s edition of MaltaToday. We have always experienced exemplary, professional and dedicated behaviour from MEP David Casa, whose work ethic and commitment to his causes is why we choose to be employed in his office.

In the past months we have witnessed a systematic, vicious attack targeting David Casa and his office, but these new allegations are a new low and have gone too far. We are disgusted by the incessant efforts to tarnish Mr Casa’s reputation and prevent him from continuing his work. We stand by MEP David Casa".

The statement has been issued by all nine members of Mr Casa’s staff.
