17 Black: PM will wait for inquiries, investigations to be concluded

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said this evening that he will wait until the inquiries related to allegations made about 17 Black to be concluded before taking any steps.

He was replying to questions after news reports indicated that the owner of 17 Black. A joint investigation by The Times of Malta and Reuters found that Electrogas director and CEO of the Tumas Group Yorgen Fenech was its owner.

“From the beginning I said that I will wait for the investigations and inquiries, of which some were asked for by independent judiciaries from the opposition, to be concluded. From there I will take the decisions I need to take.

“I also note that that I cannot ascertain myself what the journalists saw, and they are quoting investigations that are being conducted by Maltese authorities. Up until yesterday, I was still hearing the criticism that the Maltese authorities were not really investigating."

Muscat also said he cannot verify if Yorgen Fenech owns 17 Black.

When asked if he will be taking action against Mizzi and Schembri he reiterated that he will wait for the investigations to be concluded.

When asked if he was in the Opposition if he would be comfortable with the same situation, Muscat said he was in Opposition when Austin Gatt forgot to declare an account in Switzerland and at the time the Prime Minister was comfortable with him.

Earlier, Opposition Leader Adrian Delia called on the PM to take action.
