Balzan Flyers vs Swieqi Phoenix 3-0 ( 25-18,25-15,25-19 )
Balzan Flyers used all their experience to overcome newly promoted side Swieqi Phoenix 3-0. To challenge for the league Swieqi Phoenix have signed in Martha Curmi and the experienced Serbian player Marija Micic.
Swieqi Phoenix started the first set strongly and with Marija Micic in fine form raced into an 8-4 lead. Balzan Flyers reacted well and with Cinzia Fenech serving well managed to regain the lead 12-11. Phoenix ably led by setter Marianna Zammit Munro continued to play well and with the score 15-13 for Phoenix, a timeout called by Balzan Flyers Coach Nicola Muncan had the desired effect as his team recovered the point difference and with Yana Cutajar serving well Balzan Flyers close the set 25-18.
In the second set Balzan Flyers took an 8-2 lead which they increased to 12-4. Swieqi Phoenix tried to react and were pushed by Coach Leonard Zammit Munro. 3 consecutive aces by Tamara Kenkovski brought the score to 12- 8. Good defensive work by Swieqi Phoenix enabled them to close the gap to 14-11. Balzan Flyers raised their game and with Malaševska Zane, Dominika Dworniczak and Amanda Agius in their fine form, they easily closed the set 25-15 in their favour.
The third set was a closer contest with both teams defending well neither team managing to gain the upper hand until with the score tied at 11-11 Balzan Flyers Malaševska Zane used her strong service to enable her team to take a 16-11 lead. Swieqi Phoenix Coach Leonard Zammit Munro tried to push further his players but Balzan Flyers kept on going with their rhythm to close the set 25-19 and therefore win the game 3-0.
Fleur De Lys vs Falcons Volley 0 - 3 (15 - 25 ; 11 - 25 ; 11 - 25)
Renette Magro from Fleur de Lys started with a series of services putting the newly joined team Falcons in difficulty. Falcons then managed to change the situation by adapting their reception and their attack accordingly. Falcons Captain Alison Borg's services together with the effort of her fellow teammates managed to equal the score to 7-7 and continued their march towards the end of the set by finishing it at a score 25-18 in their favour.
In the second and third set, the Falcons setter Marija Lucic was of great value to her team and with her sets, her teammates were able to attack and achive more points in their favour. Marija Lucic also scored some few points by putting second ball over and taking the opponents into surprise. Although Fleur de Lys had a good defence it wasn't enough to stop Falcons strong services and attack resulting with both sets ended with the score of 25-11 and resulting in the victory of 3-0 in favour of Falcons.
Sliema Kavallieri RS2 vs Mellieha (25 - 10 ; 25 - 6 ; 25 - 13)
The last game of the weekend was between Sliema Kavalieri 2 and Mellieha. The home team (Sliema Kavallieri 2) winning a comfortable 3 - 0 with sets scores of 25-10, 25-6 and 25-13. The game was constantly dominated by Sliema Kavallieri 2 especially with the accurate services of Catherine Spiteri, Whitney Mintoff, Stephanie Chircop and Stephanie Grech. The Game was refereed by Marvic Micallef and Massimo Borg.
