Ira Losco to headline Valletta New Year’s Eve concert

Ira Losco will headline the annual Valletta New Year’s Eve party, which will be held in St George’s Square.

The night will kickstart at 8.30 pm with local duo Xarulù, followed by one of Malta’s biggest artists, Ira Losco. 

Ira Losco will be accompanied by her band and will be performing the very best songs from her repertoire which include her chart-topping singles, What I’d Give, Me Luv U Long Time, and her recent single One in A Million, which is also included in her 7th album titled No Sinner No Saint.

Following Ira Losco’s concert, DJ Pierre Cordina will take to the stage for an energetic countdown just before midnight, while playing a mashup of the best dance anthems of 2018. DJ Mykill will then close off this magical night accompanied by live musicians. 

Corazon Mizzi and Owen Bonnici will be hosting the event. Firework displays and special effects will also be part of the festivities, creating a magical and colourful atmosphere. 

Addressing a press conference, Justice and Culture Minister Owen Bonnici said: “The public attends New Year’s Eve celebrations in Valletta with great enthusiasm, and these festivities will definitely showcase the level of high quality attained during this year’s events. As we bring this magnificent year to a close, one can’t help but look back at the wonderful achievements during this year dedicated to culture, which will serve as a foundation to keep on strengthening the culture sector.”  

Parliamentary Secretary for Consumer Affairs and Valletta 2018 Deo Debattista said that “during this year our island saw more than 400 cultural activities being organised for Valletta 2018. Now it is time to celebrate the end of a year and the beginning of a new one, which will be the gateway for something greater.” 

Valletta 2018 Foundation Chairman Jason Micallef said that “we will welcome 2019 together with a large feast, a special atmosphere of unity, and entertainment by various bands and artists. Some surprises are also in store. The show will not only take place in St George’s Square but will also be spread across other streets in Valletta including the area in front of the Law Courts and Pjazza Teatru Rjal, so that everyone can be part of this celebration.”  

On the night, the Floriana Park and Ride service, as well as regular bus and ferry services to and from Valletta, will be extended until 2 am. 

 

The Valletta New Year’s Eve celebrations are being organised by the Valletta 2018 Foundation in collaboration with G7 Events, the Valletta Local Council, the Malta Tourism Authority, the Ministry for Tourism, and the Ministry for Justice, Culture and Local Government.
