The State of the Environment report confirms that the government does not have a long-term plan for the environment, just like the PN and experts in the field have been saying, Opposition Leader Adrian Delia said on Monday.
Speaking during a visit to the Xrobb l-Għaġin nature park, Delia said this was leading to Malta having the worst results in Europe.
Delia said the report makes it clear that the government does not have an environmental plan and this is also made clear by the negative results the country was getting in its targets on the safeguarding and sustainability of the environment. The Labour government’s plan to increase the population without a plan is negatively affecting a number of sectors, including the environment, he said.
The PN Leader said the country was overcrowded and referred to recent statistics that showed that Malta was among the worst EU performers in recycling and the fourth worst in air quality. He also mentioned the growing number of vehicles on the roads.
Delia said that PN has launched 16 concrete proposals on the environment which involve the community in environmental protection, promote an ecological public sector and call on the EU to give more importance to Malta and Gozo’s needs.
The PN will in the coming weeks unveil new proposals related to development, transport, pollution and waste management.
