The Mosta AF Sign Studio Cycling Club road race, which took place in Żebbuġ on Sunday morning saw nearly 100 cyclists take part in 10 different categories.  The race was dotted with some breath taking sprint finishes, where wins were decided by just a matter of miliseconds.

As expected the Elite Category gave for some good action on the 100km route.  The 22 lap course saw some strategic moves by the more experienced cyclists.  Half way through the course William Hili (Mosta AF Sign Studio), Jason Vella (Agones SFC) and Clive Ebejer (Team Greens) set the pace and opened a gap.  The trio was subsequently joined by Maurice Formosa (The Cyclist) and together they worked towards ensuring they keep the lead throughout.  With no clear winner until the very last lap, the decisive moment came in the last few metres of the race, when Formosa put in a strong and determined sprint to cross the finish line in first place, milliseconds before Hili and Ebejer who finished second and third respectively.  The second group peleton followed, with Mosta's Pierre Borg out sprinting the group to the finish line.

The Ladies Category saw Margaret Seguna (Mosta AF Sign Studio) establish herself on the forefront from the start and win the 12 lap race with a comfortable gap over Anjelika Ruggier (Team Greens).  Seguna's team mate Donnah Calleja came in third place.

The Masters 40+ Category was won by Birkirkara St. Joseph's Brian Rogers, who claimed victory over Mario Attard (Team Greens) by the breath of a whisker.  The Cyclist's Paul Zarb followed in third place.  The Masters 50+ category saw two Mosta club members take podium places with Steve Mifsud and Kevin Muscat taking first and third place respectively. The Cyclist's Joseph Micallef took second place in yet another close finish between a first and second place.

In the younger categories, the Mosta Club dominated most podiums with Jaeken Galea (Under 14 Males),  Justine Degiorgio (Under 14 Females), Jacob Schembri (Under 16 Males) taking top billing, joining them in first place in the Under 16 Females' Category was The Cyclist's Kristina Spiteri.

The newly introduced Under 23 Category saw Brandon Sultana (Gozo CC) take first place. He was followed by Mosta cyclist Carl Xuereb and Isaac Spiteri (The Cyclist).  This category saw cyclists cover 22 laps.

Nikol Micallef and Clyve Chetcuti, both products of the Mosta Club took first and second respectively, followed by Luke Borg (The Cyclist) in the Juniors Category.

A short race for Under 12s took place before the start of the main event, and which also welcomed the young Jake Vella back into the racing fold. 

"This race never fails to provide thrills and spills.  The undulating route, which is not an easy one,  really provides for some class action and today's race was certainly no exception with many categories clocking victories with just miliseconds to spare. We would like to spare a thought for the injured cyclist due to a minor crash at the end of the Masters 40+ category. " explained Edward Enriquez, Mosta AF Sign Studio Cycling Club Secretary. "We are particularly thrilled with the results obtained by our younger cyclists who have been training with our Academy from a young age and are showing promise in their sport".
