Today at around 7am, a team from the Committee Against Bird Slaughter monitoring the fields west from the airport (Misraħ Ħlantun), filmed two hunters shooting at birds during the closed season.

Both men used illegal silencers to suppress the noise of their shotguns, CABS said.

The birdwatchers alerted the A.L.E. who responded very quickly and caught both men in the act, the statement added.

After being confronted with the fact that their illegal activity has been recorded on camera both men admitted to the charges and criminal proceedings have been instituted against them. The two shotguns and an illegal bird caller were seized, CABS said.

CABS praised the police officers for their quick intervention and succesful efforts to apprehend the poachers red-handed.
