Spain national coach Luis Enrique said that this is a transitional period for Spain as the team prepared to face Malta in the second game of the Euro 2020 qualifying stage.

Spain beat Norway 2-1 in its opening encounter last Saturday, a similar result as that obtained by Malta against the Faroe Islands.

"It is true that we are not exploiting all the clear chances that we have been creating," he said on the eve of the match. "We have to concentrate on this match against Malta and play an attacking game. Eleven players take the field but we work as one team."

Asked about the form of Morata and Asensio, Luis Enrique stated, "Both Alvaro Morata and Marco Asensio know when to move and how to create space for all the other players."

"On the other hand one cannot question the high level of Jordi Alba. He is a very important player to the team. The same can be said of Sergio Ramos. He is a unique player. His personality and technique is very valuable as is his commitment. The 162 matches that he has donned the red jersey of Spain speak for themselves."

"We are focused for the match against Malta and we will be playing intense football. That will be our main objective. Still we need to generate more goalscoring opportunities and stay focused at all times," concluded Luis Enrique.

Barcelona defender Jordi Alba also spoke about the match against Malta. "It is a very important match for use and we have to follow up our good result that we have achieved against Norway. We have to create chances and take nothing for granted. This is high level football."
