Shooting: Christopher Vella wins the George Bugeja trap memorial

Christopher Vella claimed the George Bugeja Trap Memorial, an Event that was organised on three qualification rounds of twenty five clay targets each at the Qormi Clay Shooting Club.

This was Vella's first time ever on the highest step of the podium as he has been aiming for this position for quite a while by placing second overall in a couple of occasions. He was joined on the podium by Paul Formosa and by George Mifsud who finished in the second and in the third place respectively.


After the qualification rounds, the six Finalists in the Bib number order were;

Rudolph Zammit with a satisfactory score of 71/75, Nico Sciberras with 68/75, Christopher Vella hit 66/75, John Marmara 64/75+2, Paul Formosa 64/75+1 and George Mifsud 62/75.

A perfect straight of 25/25 hit targets was registered by Rudolph Zammit, while Paul Formosa managed a nearly perfect score of 24/25 same as Junior Athlete Nico Sciberras who on the other hand managed two rounds of 24/25.

The Finals results were;

1st Christopher Vella 21/25 + 5/5 + 4/5 + 5/5 + 7/10, total score 42/50

2nd Paul Formosa 23/25 + 3/5 + 5/5 + 3/5 + 6/10, total score 40/50

3rd George Mifsud 22/25 + 4/5 + 3/5 + 3/5, total score 32/40

4th Nico Sciberras 19/25 + 4/5 + 4/5, total score 27/35

5th John Marmara 17/25 + 4/5, total score 21/30

6th Rudolph Zammit 13/25, total score 13/25

The top Shooters in their respective classes concluded their qualification rounds with the following scores


Class A

1st John Marmara 64/75

2nd George Mifsud 62/75


Class B

1st Rudolph Zammit 71/75

2nd Nico Sciberras 68/75

3rd Christopher Vella 66/75


Class C

1st Paul Gatt 57/75

2nd George Grech 56/75

The MSSF Shotgun Programme will continue on Sunday 31 March 2019 at the Bidnija Shooting Ranges with Executive Guns & Ammo Club - Krieghoff - Mini Grand Prix.
