An excellent start for Team Malta in the Mediterranean Championships.
Both Maltese ladies found themselves on the podium on the first day of the Championships in the Singles Event. The gold was won by Greece's Georgia Sagona, whilst Sue Abela and Sara Xuereb from Malta clinched the silver and bronze medal respectively.
After both ladies won a medal in the Singles event - one silver and one bronze, the excitement continued in the afternoon in the Men's Singles.
It was head to head with Italy's Fiorentino, and Malta's Mauro Anasastasi. It was till the very last game that the gold went to Italy, with Malta winning a prestigious silver.
This means that Malta won 3 medals on the first day, which makes us the first nation winning most medals in this event.
The medal presentation took place in the afternoon at 5.45pm at the Eden Superbowl in St Julians.
