Interschools Water Polo Tournament 2019

On Thursday 4th April, the Sport Promotion Unit in collaboration with the Aquatic Sports Association, organised the yearly water polo event for Secondary Schools. The tournament was held at Tal-Qroqq National Pool, with the participation of 12 teams from State, Church and Independent Schools.

Throughout the scholastic year, Secondary School students from all Education Sectors, had the opportunity to take part in a water polo programme specifically aimed at identifying those students who have the potential to pursue further in developing their talent and also to promote the game. During the first part of the programme, National Water Polo Coach Karl Izzo paid visits to schools, explaining the rules and promoting the sport. Consequently, water polo workshops were organised at Tal Qroqq National Pool, where students took part in practical sessions.

During the final part, schools which were part of the programme, took part in a one-day InterSchools Tournament. National Water Polo Coaches, Karl Izzo and Anthony Farrugia, were present during the event to identify talented athletes who had the potential to develop their skills.

Participating schools were: St Albert the Great, Archbishop's Seminary, Mosta Secondary School, National Sports School, Gozo Secondary School, De La Salle College, Zokrija Maria Regina College, St Lucia Secondary, St Martin's College, St Edward's College, San Andrea and St Michael Foundation.

The tournament was won by the National Sports School while St Edward's and De La Salle placed 2nd and 3rd respectively. Mr Caruana Curran, ASA President and Rita Azzopardi, ASA General Secretary, presented the trophies to the winners and runners up.
