National Party Euro-Parliament candidate Peter Aguis was spot on in highlighting the unequal race in spending on the campaign by candidates for the European Parliament (TMIS 14 April). A clever ploy used is that activities are said to be funded by ‘friends of the candidate’ so effectively the candidate is exonerated. I think such practices continue to pile criticism on the EU – so stringent on the common citizen yet so lax on its parliamentary candidates!
