Waterpolo, U17 Euro Qualifiers: Flying start for Malta

Malta's national Under-17 team had a flying start in the European Under-17 qualification group being played in Malta.

The Maltese youngsters had to play two matches yesterday, against Poland in the morning and against Switzerland in the evening. Malta had two outstanding performances beating Poland 14-4 in the morning, doing even better in the evening match defeating Switzerland 17-5.

Neptunes starlet Jake Muscat scored fifteen goals for Malta in these matches. In the opening match Malta won all session against Poland, 3-0, 3-2, 3-1, 5-1. Jake Muscat scored seven goals, captain Benjamin Cachia scored a brace, with Lucas Falzon, Gabriel Melillo, Mark Amir Carani, Nico Schiavon, and Sebastian Busuttil scoring a goal each.

Against Switzerland Malta gave another solid display, practically claiming victory by the half way mark taking a 9-1 lead. Malta won all session 5-0, 4-1, 5-3, 3-1. Jake Muscat was again Malta's chief marksman with eight goals. Benjamin Cachia and Sabastien Busuttil scored a hat-tirck each, with Gianni Farrugia, Mark Amir Carani and Matthew Chircop scoring the other goals.

Malta will be back in action this evening against the Czech Republic and will end its commitments in the Group tomorrow against Greece.
