Monday, 27 May 2019, 19:12 Last update: about 9 months ago

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said on Monday that in the coming weeks he will be considerng who the government will nominate for the post of European Commissioner.

Muscat was speaking during a meeting with the PL’s newly elected MEP’s – Miriam Dalli, Alfred Sant, Alex Agius Saliba and Josianne Cutajar.

Muscat said the choice will be made in the best interest of the country.

He said he was sure that the PL MPEs would work to support the person who will be nominated.

He said there is a line of thought that every European Prime Minster should nominate two persons, one of whom would be chosen by the President of the European Commission.

The procedure that will be used still has to be established and, once this happens, he will be nominating a person or persons who have the right credentials to become European Commissioners, the PM said.
