The table tennis team events started on the wrong foot yesterday as with the men's team suffering two defeats against Cyprus and San Marino, but on the other hand the girls did better beating Iceland in the first match, but were beaten by Montenegro in the second game.
The girls' victory over Iceland was a convincing one, a 3-0 victory with two singles and the doubles deciding the match. In the first single Viktoria Lucenkova defeated Sol Kristinardottir 11-4, 11-4, 11-5, and in the second single Anthea Cutajar beat Aldis Larusdottir 15-13, 11-5, 11-4.
In the doubles match Lucenkova and Cutajar sealed the victory beating the Iceland pair 11-3, 11-5, 11-4.
In the following match Malta stretched Montenegro to the limit but had to surrender at the end losing 2-3.
In the men's competition Malta suffered two defeats, 1-3 against San Marino and 0-3 against Cyprus. Against Cyprus Daniel Borda lost against Hristo Hristonov 7-11, 7-11, 8-11, Gabriel Grixti lost against Marios Yiangau 10-12, 10-12, 7-11.
In the doubles match Andrew Gambina teamed up with Gabriel Grixti but were beaten by the Cyprus pair 6-11, 12-14, 4-11.
