The shooting competitions got off to a start yesterday in difficult rainy and misty conditions, with the first three rounds of the trap competition. Malta was represented by William Chetcuti and Brian Galea.
William Chetcuti finished in second place with a total of 71 clays just one less than the partial leader Ivo Stanisic of Montenegro. Stanisic had three rounds of 44 clays for a total of 72. William Chetcuti started with a straight, the only one of the day from an competitor, and then hit 22 and 24 in the next rounds for a total of 71.
Chetcuti is followed by three competitors who hit a total of 70 in the first three rounds. These are Daniel Dandreis of Monaco, and the pair from Cyprus Nikolas Kyriakou and Andreas Makri.
Brian Galea is presently in eighth place with a total of 67 clays. Galea started with a disappointing 21 in the first round, but then improved with a 22 in the second and 24 in the third round.
The Trap competition continues today with the final two rounds in the morning, with the best six qualifying for the final round in the afternoon.
