t was a memorable double for Malta in the Double Trap competition as Gianluca Chetcuti and William claimed gold and silver in a competition that they completely dominated.

For Gianluca this was the second consecutive double in this competition after his success two years ago in San Marino. Gianluca was in sharp form and immediately went in front hitting 28 followed by Berti of San Marino with 26 and William Chetcuti with 25.

The Maltese pair remained in front in the second and third round with Gianluca hitting 26 from 30 in the second round and William Chetcuti improving to 27, with Berti falling back with 24 clays. In the third round all three hit 25.

In the fourth round on another 30 clays, Gianluca practically took hold of the first place with a good 28, followed by Gian Marco Berti's 26 and William Chetcuti's 25. Before the final round Gianluca held a five-point lead over William and six over Berti.

In the fifth round William Chetcuti shot first, and his vast experience prevailed sealing at least the silver medal with a good performance hitting 28 clays. Berti missed a couple in the first shots and the William's silver was guaranteed and it all depended on Gianluca's performance.

Gianluca kept his cool and looked very confident to hit 25 and pip William, finishing with a total of 132, two more than William. Berti managed to win the bronze after a shoot off with Leontios Leontiou who had recovered in the fifth and final round.

Both Gianluca and William were satisfied with the result obtained, a result greeted with great joy with the MOC officials present, and Gianluca's parents who found it hard to control their emotions.
