An Indian woman was killed after being decapitated in an elevator at a plastic factory.

Sushila Vishwakarma, 48, died while taking the elevator in the manufacturing building in the city of Vadodara, in India's western Gujarat state, the Daily Mail reports.

Police believe the accident may have been caused after the headphones Sushila was wearing became tangled in the collapsible grill door of the elevator.

She arrived for her 8am shift on Monday and took the elevator from the ground floor to the fourth floor, where she was due to start work.

Her head was found on the ground floor while her body was dragged upwards to the fourth, the Indian Express reported.

It was not immediately clear what caused the devastating accident, but officials say they are considering multiple possibilities. The case has been registered as an accidental death.
