The Maltese team led by Angela Adamoli needed a victory over Luxembourg to win the bronze medal, but Luxembourg proved to be too strong for the Maltese who thus missed the podium after winning the gold two years ago in San Marino.
It was surely an overall disappointing result as the women’s team was surely expected to land a podium place, but they failed. Luxembourg won 76-58 (18-8, 20-13, 16-21, 22-16)
Luxembourg had a good start building a ten-point lead by the end of the first quarter, a lead which was increased to 17 points by the half way line. After the break Malta had their best quarter winning it by a five-point margin. In the last quarter Luxembourg held off the Maltese last efforts cruising to a relatively easy victory to obtain the bronze medal.
Malta’s best scorer was Sara Pace with 14 points followed by Amelia Simmons with 11.
