Masters Football: Another satisfactory season

Mario Meli Tuesday, 4 June 2019, 19:09 Last update: about 7 years ago

The final of the KONIKA/MINOLTA Masters Knock Out, put the curtain down for another successful   season 2018 /2019 as organised by MASTERS FOOTBALL (MALTA)  the association affiliated  with the Malta Football Association.

Once again twelve teams took part in all competitions. Several newomers were seen during the season. These players, maybe short of stamina, but are still able to show their skils. Perhaps they are old in years, but because football is their passion MASTERS FOOTBALL was the  ideal place for them  to continue  to play the game they love.

All this put pressure on all teams. Teams took each game very seriously, so much that unfortunately sometimes rivalry was great and some small incidents were recorded. Maybe this was due that all teams were strenghted with new quality players. However, all this contributed for the increase in populariy of 'six a side' football and a number of sponsors continue to show faith and put pen to paper to continue to sponsor the association.

Preparation for the new season has already started and the race is on to catch up with players that will be  avaialale on the market. All teams (but two)  had already registered for next season.

Going back to the season that has just finished, DINGLI DESANA and MOSTA SHAGGY were celent playersthe successful teams. DINGLI deserved to be champions in the Premier Division sponsored y MAPFRE / MSV Life  and MOSTA SHAGGY won the championship f CISK MASTERS DIVISION ON LEAGUE and the KONIKA/MINOLTA Knock Out. Both teams had strong sides with some  excellent players. Mosta had the like of Jeffrey Chetcuti, Leandros  Calleja and Cedric Sciberras. The team was coached by Charles Agius who is also at the helm of the national team.  For DINGLY, several players distinguished themselves. Carlo Mamo who was also voted as the best player of the league; Charlo Magro, Malcolm Licari and Simon Shead who also finished as top scorer of the league. Late in the season Dingli had also the luxury of registering Gareth Sciberras ex B'kara.

Looking back, the General Meeting of the ASSOCIATION was held very recently and the committee for next three years is as follows:

President:  Mario meli        Vice Preident:      Alfred Spiteri:    Secretary:  Patrick Meli

Treasurer: Lino Micallef    Asst. Secretary/PRO:    Renato Vella

Membru/National Team Manager:        Emmanuel Darmanin

The National Team Selection with some new element. Continued on its positive way.  After winning the first internatinal tournamnt in Malta last Januery, they beat a selection from Gozo, beat a Royal Marines side from England and last week won an international tournament against  a team from Perugia and a Maltese side of lawyers by the name of La Valette.
