Table Football: Maltese players at the International Open of Messina 2019

The International Open of Messina was organised last weekend in Roccalumera.

The individual categories competitions were held on Saturday;

In the Open Category, ten Maltese players were participating; Jean Carl Tabone, Josef Camilleri, Mauro Camilleri, Hansel Mallia, Jamie Bonnici, Alfred Bonnici, Hector Scerri, Melvin Barun, Emanuel Camilleri u Isaac Camilleri. This category was won by the Italian player Claudio la Torre. Mauro Camilleri and Hansell Mallia made it to the quarter finals while Jamie Bonnici, Alfred Bonnici and Jean Carl Tabone made it to the last sixteen.

In the veteran Category three Maltese players were playing, Adrian Bonnici, Charlie Aquilina and Walter Joseph Attard.  The winner of this category was the Belgian player Pascal Scheen. Adrian Bonnici made it to the quarter finals whilst Charlie Aquilina made it to the Semi-final. Charlie Aquilina lost the semi-final against the winner of this category with the score of 2-1 with 'sudden death'.

In the under 19 category Jamie Bonnici and Isaac Camilleri were the Maltese players.  Jamie Bonnici made it to the final against the Italian Manzella. Manzella won 3-2.

On Sunday it was the turn for the team competitions. Malta was represented by three clubs Valletta Lions TFC, Bormla SC and Attard SC.  Both Bormla SC and Valletta Lions TFC had a good tournament and they made it to the semi-final.  Valletta Lions TFC was made up of Adrian Bonnici, Alfred Bonnici, Jamie Bonnici, Melvin Barun u Hector Scerri. Bormla SC was made up of Charlie Aquilina, Josef Camilleri, Mauro Camilleri and the Greek player Dimitris Dimopolous. Unfortunately, Attard Subbuteo Club were eliminated in the group phase.
