Whatever Joseph Muscat and his band of crooks do now is just too late. No amount of trying to patch up will wash the situation clean.

The Council of Europe report which was approved by a huge majority was damning. No amount of silly talk of traitors in our midst, or any vague promises of reform, can turn the situation around.

Joseph Muscat will be remembered as the man who won by unbelievable margins but failed miserably in his democratic credentials.

Malta’s institutional safeguards were never too good and reform should have come long ago. But what this government has achieved is a first that shames us all—a report which proves what the negativity brigade has been saying for very long.

Joseph Muscat has turned this country into his fiefdom. Nothing he does can turn the clock back, nothing will give him a new democratic lease of life.

Muscat has tried all his sleazy tricks at survival but the only way out now is for him to resign as fast as he can. Only then will democracy in Malta have a slight chance of survival.

The institutions, the democracy of the land, the whole edifice, are built on crumbling sand.

If anyone in the Labour Party is listening and cares now is the time to reflect and act. And prove that after all there can be some decency in this desperate land.
