Emily Grech Carr seals overall victory in the second BSJ Arena Open Water Swimming Race

The second race of the BSJ Arena Open Water Swimming took place recently. The race was won by Emily Grech Carr, one of the few women to register the best overall time in these races.  

Under 17 swimmer, Emily Grech Carr, who recently returned from the COJI Island Games with a handful of medals, was the first to come out of the water in Salina in a time of 27 minutes 51 seconds.  Stefano Debono Grech was second out of the water and the first male in 28 minutes 04 seconds.   Following Debono Grech was Nathan Cachia in 29 minutes 29 seconds, whilst Luca Vella placed third in a time of 29 minutes 41 seconds. The Males' podium was made up of a young group of swimmers - one falling in the Under 17 category whilst the others in the Under 14.

In the Females Category second placed was Adriana Ferreira Massa, who clocked a time of 29 minutes 44 seconds whilst third placed was Anjelika Ruggier finished the race in 31 minutes 21 seconds.

"It is very reassuring to see a new generation of up and coming young swimmers in these races. The mix of experienced and new swimmers makes the race more interesting whilst at the same time giving the opportunity to the sport to develop and grow" Euchar Camilleri, Secretary General, Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club.

The third race of the Series will take place on Wednesday 3rd July in Salina. Race will start at 18:30hrs. Swimmers can register on site until an hour before the race.  Further information can be obtained on www.bkarastjoseph.com
