A minor earthquake has hit Sicily this morning, Italian media report.
The tremor was measured at 2.9 on the Richter scale and hit the area between Messina and Catania at 5.27am.
The Geophysics and Volcanology Institute said that the epicentre was at a depth 28 kilometres beneath Randazzo, in the Catania province.
No damage or injuries were reported.
