Gruppetta and Carannante to represent Malta at the Qubica AMF World Cup in Indonesia

Philip Gruppetta and Tiziana Carannante won the 18 game Qubica AMF World Cup qualifiers held over the last 3 days at the Eden Super Bowl.

On what is proving to be a tough oil pattern to master, Gruppetta led from day 1, bowling consistently including a 261 game. Only Mark Muscat, Neil Sullivan and Paul Gray managed to stay within striking distance after the first 12 games. On day 3, Muscat closed the gap slightly but at the end Gruppetta finished a comfortable winner with a strong 207 average.

The ladies was a keenly contested affair with Cynthia Frendo Duca, who is having a great 2019, powering her way to a good lead after the first 6 games.  Carannante, the 2017 Maltese sportswoman of the year,  however clawed her way back in the next 6 games to come within just 10 pins of Frendo Duca, and then overtook her with some consistent bowling on the last day to finish with a 202 average. 3rd place went to Melissa Swift

Carannante and Gruppetta travel to Indonesia in November to take part in the World Cup.
