Despite being a sheltered location, the Mtarfa By Pass was still hit by strong winds which made conditions for the second race of the Eurosport BSJ 5k Road Running Series tougher. Once again the race attracted over two hundred athletes.
Simon Spiteri took the lead from the start but there was no giving up on the possibility of second win from Pedro Lopez de Haro who was hot on Spiteri's heels from the word go. Spiteri maintained his lead well into the second lap but Lopez de Haro took the win, with an advantage of seven seconds. Both males registered improved timings from the previous race. Third placed was Mark Herrera, who crossed the finish line ten seconds after Spiteri and shaved off thirty seconds from the first race.
Games of the Small States double Gold Medal Winner Lisa Bezzina gave a flawless performance to take the female lead from the very start and build a comfortable gap, of over a minute, between her and second placed Tara Abdilla. Third on the podium was veteran Carmen Hili who improved her time, from the previous race by twenty seconds.
