Famous Brazilian striker Ronaldino has categorically denied that negotiations are taking place for him to join Maltese premier League club Birkirkara.

On Thursday, Maltese media was alight with speculation about a possible move to Malta by the former Barcelona, Milan and PSG star player, with the Birkirkara club also confirming that a deal was being negotiated.

But a statement released by Ronaldinho's Maltese lawyer Jean Paul Sammut on said that while it was true that the player's agent was called by a Birkirkara FC official to express the interest in signing him, "this request was rejected instantly."

"We hereby categorically deny the allegations published in the local media of any possible signing between my client and Birkirkara FC... any possible signing between my client and the club are completely false," the statement read.
