Bjorn Vassallo or Chris Bonett: MFA to have new president today

The Malta Football Association will have a new president today. He will be elected during the association's annual general meeting being held at the Grand Hotel Excelsior.

Former secretary general Bjorn Vassallo and former vice-president Dr Chris Bonett are the two contestants for the post.

Whoever is the winner, he will be taking the place of Norman Darmanin Demajo who has been leading the association for the last nine years. He had contested Dr Joseph Mifsud successfully in 2010.

Apart from the election for the presidency of the association, there will be the other elections for the several posts to be occupied by top officials and the Executive Committee members.

Earlier this month, the MFA Electoral Commission had approved the following list of persons contesting the various posts:

PRESIDENT: Dr Chris Bonett; Bjorn Vassallo

VICE-PRESIDENT (Three posts): Adrian Casha; Dr Peter Fenech; Dr Cory Greenland; Alex Manfrè; Ludovico Micallef; Dr Matthew Paris.

TREASURER: Ivan Mizzi

Nominees for the posts of Ordinary Members of the Executive Committee for season 2019/2020:

PREMIER DIVISION (Two posts): Dr Ian Micallef; Paul Spiteri

FIRST DIVISION (Two posts): Paul Falzon; Joseph Sammut; Laurence Seychell

SECOND DIVISION (Two posts): Godfrey Borg; Paul Zammit

THIRD DIVISION (Two posts): Chris Grech; Dr Cory Greenland; Raymond Micallef

MEMBER CLUBS OVERALL (Two posts): Jesmond Abela; Paul Falzon; Chris Grech; Claudio Martinelli; Raymond Micallef; Chris Muscat; Joseph Sammut.
